One of EMG’s original designs and our most popular bass pickup since its introduction in 1979; the EMG P covers a wide sonic palette of classic and modern bass sounds. Because the P utilizes ceramic magnets coupled with short, squat coils, the tone has brilliant high-end articulation, warmth, and incredible low end punch. Countless pros use this bass pickup because of its natural presence, superior definition, and low noise. Great for all styles of music in the studio or on the stage. This model is also available with ceramic steel magnets for a smoother high end response. Utilizing EMG's solderless wiring, this pickup is easy to install at home.

Best all around Precision pickup, period.

Joshua /Reviewed 7/17/2015

I have been playing bass for about ten years now, mostly in live situations. Playing almost exclusively Fender instruments, I had always sacrificed headroom and clarity for the vintage Fender tone. The few active basses I did have were equipped with the Fender 3-band preamp. After having tons of issues from grounding to static to bad pots and eventually bad pickups, I began searching for aftermarket solutions. I tried Bartolini, Aguilar, Seymour Duncan, and even Sadowsky preamps and pickups but failed to really get onboard (no pun intended) with any of them.

Then I tried the EMG P set with its standard volume and tone set up in my '83 Precision bass and it blew me away. Aside from the tonal clarity, diversity, and massive boost in headroom and presence, THEY WERE COMPLETELY NOISELESS! Finally an all around winner for several playing styles and situations. I have used them exclusively in every P bass I have, but now I have added the EXB to three different Precision bass setups and it absolutely entrances everyone who hears it. No one wants to believe that so much is coming from a single split-coil. I still smile from ear to ear every time I get in the pocket with these pickups. I never thought it would possible to improve on the P bass, but EMG found a way. I give my highest recommendation!

I began using this pickup in the 80s. We played lots of outdoor gigs, sometimes overseas, and I didn't want to get shocked because we played whether the wiring was faulty or it was drizzling. It's a clean pickup. Sound men loved working with it, and practicing through headphones, the pickup helped clean up my technique. To be picky, I most like to play passive pickups through tubes. But I don't believe any sound is "to die for." So if I had to play only one pickup for all gigging situations, it would have to be an EMG of some kind.
