The H4 is EMG's best selling passive humbucker for guitar. Combining the power of our active 81 with the soul of a passive PAF, this pickup produces a well balanced tone, with tight bass response, glassy mids, and crunchy highs. These tonal features are achieved by utilizing over wound coils loaded with ceramic bar magnets that are fully shielded to reduce noise. This high output pickup is often used in the bridge position where it shines with excellent range, responsiveness, and sweet harmonics. If you want a big rock or heavy modern guitar sound, this is the pickup for you.

Sounds amazing

Jonathan /Reviewed 10/21/2017

I installed this in my ESP/LTD Viper. I was a little worried it would not sound as good as the pup that was already in there (a no name model that sounded amazing). Upon installation it was immediate who the clear winner was. The H4 is crystal clear, even at high gain settings like metal. The chug is crystal clear and not muddy. Planning on putting one in my Les Paul.

the great passive pickups that EMG ever made. if you love the sounds of EMG 81, but you need the passive one or need the cheaper one, HZ-H4 is the best one

Sound difference amazing

Rick /Reviewed 1/9/2015

So ya, I installed this on a 2010 Jackson Randy Rhoades guitar and immediately I notice the difference in sound. The bluesy feel of it using Ernie Ball M-Steel 10-46's sounds incredible.

if tone matters, avoid these pickups

cameron /Reviewed 4/13/2014

Ive owned many emg equipped guitars, three of which came with hz h4 pickups. In a mahogany bodied guitar they sound dull and lifeless. Thin mid range response and sloppy lows. When you can get two different brands of bill lawrence pickups for around $60 each, you have to really ask yourself why you'd bother with a set of pickups that only comes equipped in midrange guitars.

Decent

John /Reviewed 12/15/2013

These came stock my Schecter Diamond Series Damien-6. They sound nice, a little bit muddy at time, but they're decent for the price.

Flexible & Powerful

Alex /Reviewed 11/23/2013

These pickups have a habit for making cheaper guitars sound like expensive ones. They're powerful, but because they're passive they also have great clean tones and flexibility.
