The PAX pickup is similar to our EMG PA bass pickup, but with the addition of the X Series preamp. The X preamp offers greater dynamic control and touch sensitivity, bridging the gap between passive and active tone and feel. Because the PAX utilizes Alnico V magnets coupled with short, squat coils, the tone is open and rich, with a vintage character.
For those who seek an active P pickup with a more vintage tone and feel, the PAX is an excellent choice. Complete with EMG's solderless wiring control kit, this pickup is a breeze to install on your own.

I was looking for something balanced and not to harsh for my P bass of all the pickups companies I've researched this came as my top gamble.
Very well balanced and still sound original (alnicos) research was
absolutely well done on these.
EMG is where you for active PERIOD.

Utterly sublime precision toneFitted to my favourite Sandberg, which had it's own solid tones, but has been significantly enhanced by the EMG PAX now fitted. The best precision pickup I've played, easy to fit and a bargain to boot.

This pickup is staying on my bassHigher output than the stock passive pickup, dead quiet of course. Still has a little hint of compression like the original but fatter and warmer. I play mainly blues and roots music.

Very good sounding P-bass pickupDear fellow P-bass players,
Looking for thump and punch in a super clear fashion?
Don’t look any further, this PAX pickup from EMG is what you need ... clearer than the majority of passive AlNiCo V pickups, the PAX sounds punchier and righties without sacrificing the low-end, which is very well developed and present.
I put it on an old P-bass clone of mines, alongside with a set of flat-wound strings and ... WHOA! the bass sounded decidedly better than my Fender Am. Pro. P-bass .. best surprise of 2019! Highly recommended.
Only drawback is that you need space for a battery in the control cavity .. EMG may consider re-designing the electronics in order to occupy less “vertical” space in the cavity, allowing the battery’s installation below the pits without any need for routing the body !Posted on
