Based off the popular EMG 81, the 81-7X utilizes powerful ceramic magnets and close aperture coils to produce a detailed tone with incredible amounts of high end cut, and fluid sustain. Paired with EMG's X series preamp ,the 81-7X effectively bridges the gap between passive and active touch sensitivity and tone.

Traditionally used in the bridge position of your seven string guitar, this pickup will make your leads slice right through even the densest mix. When used in both neck and bridge positions the sound can only be described as blistering. Other recommended pairings include the classic 81-7X/85-7X setup and the versatile 81-7X/60-7X combo. EMG's solderless wiring will make installing this pickup easier than ever.

The X series preamp gives the pickup a more dynamic range along with increased headroom while keeping the more traditional string-to-string balance. X series pickups also come with an Active Tone Control (VLPF) designed to roll-off (attenuate) high frequencies, similar to a typical passive tone control. The result is a noiseless single coil guitar pickup with a classic EMG sound that bridges the gap between active and passive.

Manufacturer's Note: Make sure to check the instructions for pickup measurements before purchasing to compare your existing pickups with EMG models.

All EMG Pickups are built to order. Estimated shipping is between 7-14 business days.

Just incredible. I've tried all 3 major active pickup brands, and I ultimately went back to EMGs with my two guitars. My 6-string has the Fat 55 set, and my 7 has the 81-7X (bridge) and 707 (neck). The versatility, organic sound, and openness (headroom) of the 81-7X are its strongest points. They act, sound, and respond like passive humbuckers.

I mostly play deathcore and hardcore music but I always find myself fiddling around with my amp's clean and crunch channels and these pickups are astounding to my ears. My ONLY gripe with these is that their (lower) output does not match my 707 in the neck. In the near future I plan to pair this baby up with either a 707X or a 60X to remedy that.

TLDR: these are better than my Seymour Duncan Blackouts AHB-1, Fishman Fluence Classic, and Fishman Fluence Will Adler. There's a reason I sold all those and have my only two guitars equipped with EMG.

Super easy and effortless install and mostly plug and play. I've used these for well over a year and they work well with such a wide range of tunings. Clean chords and solos pop while the lows don't drowned them out or become inaudible.
