EMG’s Retro Active technology moves to the single coil arena. Constructed with custom wound coils using Alnico 5 magnets, the Maverick Five Set provides high powered surf Strat tones made famous by California artists like The Chantays, The Surfaris, and the king, Dick Dale.

Each pickup is uniquely voiced to create a brilliant combination when brought together, and stand up to anything position 1, 3 or 5 could ask for. Be prepared for the added punch and power of the active world married to the classic feel of passives. Like our Retro Active Humbuckers you get vintage tone with no buzz or hum. Welcome to the classic Strat tone without the classic Strat noise.

I'm a guy who mostly plays 80s metal and mostly Malmsteen stuff. I love single coil pickups cause they have better tone than humbuckers in my opinion. I been playing with great stack single coil pups like hs3 dimarzio pickups, heavy blues 2, Injectors, and even the Yjm fury from seymour duncan pickups, and the maverick five are by far the best. They stay clear and don't muddy up with high gain. These pups are really quiet as will. None of that 60s cycle crap. They are sensitive though, so be sure to set up the pickup height. Also a spc pot work wonders with these pickups. The maverick 5 are my favorite single coil pickups ever. The sav come in second place.

I've been looking for a single bridge pup that will be the only pup on the guitar. I call the guitar Stratesquire. This pickup is very loud proud and easy to install. It fits my needs on a strat as I use in my system which consist off two amps wet and dry. I use a JBL-D120 in my Blackstar HT-20 Studio as my dry sound and Eminence EM 12 for the wet sound along with Jensen 12 " Electric Lightning and a 2-10" cab that's loaded with a Eminence Copperhead and a Celestion G10 60 watt speaker. The wet side is powered by a Fender Prosonic amp thats been removed from is cabinet and place in a home-made head shell. This amp is from a combo so it has reverb and works better than the original cab. And that's were this pick-up shines. Dick Dale would most certainly be very happy with the gem as I am.
