Kirk Hammett has been ripping up solos for Metallica for over 30 years. Riffs on Ride the Lighting, Master of Puppets, and the Black Album are a must learn for all rock guitarists. For Kirk, his tone starts with EMG pickups. “Metallica’s crunch sound is often cleaner than people expect”, says Kirk. “My taste in tone has definitely changed over the years. I don’t like to use as much distortion these days—I prefer my tone to be nice and crisp”.
The Kirk Hammett Bone Breaker set is the result of taking the success of Metallica tone and adding some new elements without sacrificing gain for clean or vice-versa. By making slight pre-amp adjustments and combining Alnico 5 and Ceramic magnets the perfect tone-beast was created. The Bone Breaker set consist of the BB-B Ceramic bridge and the BB-N Alnico 5 neck pickups. If you are looking for rhythm or lead tone, the Kirk Hammett Bone Breaker set offers crisp crushing leads or smooth rounded rhythm tone at the flip of the selector switch.

My absolute favorite set for humbuckersThese Bonebreakers are stellar. I have a variety of Emg pickups in multiple guitars. These are definitely my favorite. I actually have these in two guitars. That’s how much I like them. Cannot recommend enough.

Just… WOW!These pickups have got to be the best I’ve ever played. They are so clean… notes come through crystal clear, but they don’t sacrifice any of the punch. Hope EMG makes a 7 string version soon, because I want to put these pickups in all of my more modern guitars.
Speaking of which, installation was a BREEZE. Seriously, I’ve seen Lego sets that are harder to put together than these pickups are to install. If you’re reading this and don’t have them yet, just trust me and everyone else here. Go get you a set of thesePosted on

Great for metal and cleansRecently bought this set second hand and put them into an Ibanez GIO. These pickups absolutely rock! The bridge is tight and focussed, perfect for anything heavy and the neck does clean and dirty rhythms incredibly well. While the bridge is a bit thin and they don’t excel at vintage tones they more than make up for it with the heavier side. Installing them was as easy as any other mods I’ve done, though sadly I didn’t get any mounting screws so mine are currently held in with electrical tape. A little bit pricey but well worth it for the tone.

AmazingI love these so very much, they are the best pickups I have ever used throughout my career. We worked together closely with Rob for a very long time to perfect these to match and compliment James' pickups perfectly. One of the best EMG's ever made.I have these in 4 of my guitars I love them so much. The bridge pickup has everything you love about one of the best pickups ever the 81 and adds a touch more clarity / bite . The pickups take a od pedals like a friggin champ . EMG make the best active pickups in the world and they just proved why they are the best when they released these. Old school metal , hard rock , rock or modern metal the BB's have you covered .

Just what the Kelly needed!!!I was looking for that tone were I could get crisp clean and switch to a crunch that would be felt in the deepest parts of your spine. Combined with the ice slicing of every defined note. These BONE BREAKERS do just that in my 1993 Jackson Kelly. The install was easy if you know electronics, but if you have any reservations contact EMG. The one request I would ask of EMG would be to supply a set to wire connection that would be about 4 inches longer for the connection from the plug jack to contact to the main board. I tell y'all Kirk knew what he was doing when he developed these with EMG.

Hero of the Day!A Great set of pups released by EMG in the Hammet BoneBreaker Set!
Kirk has been doing it right for decades with Metallica, and he hits a home run again with this set!
The pickups don’t come out slamming with gain, no their a very percussive pickup and respond to your pick attack. They break up nice and have a nice P.A.F. tone to em! I put em in my ec401 replacing the 81/60 set and rights away I heard the difference. These are a musical set and cover a lot of ground away from metal. These are a great set along with the Het Set, 57/66, 81/60, 81/85, Daemonum, super 77’s and Marty Friedman sets I have in other guitars!

hope one day we can have bone breakers for 7 stringsvery good pickups, i have many emg. the EMG 81/85, 81/60, 57/66 , retroactives super 77 and the bones breakers who are my favourites.. i hope we can have them for 7 strings one day
