The H pickup is EMG's original single-coil pickup design in a humbucker housing. The H has the same noiseless operation and clarity as its single coil brother which debuted in 1974.

I routed a hole to add an EMG Model H to my Kramer Stagemaster American before it left the store back in 1987, replaced the Duncan JB with a Model 81, and never regretted it for one second. Several albums and countless gigs later, it's been my main axe for 35 years now. The Model H is perfect for clean ballads and Hendrixy blues.

I play in drop A. I used to use the 60 in the neck but got tired of it because the lower strings were too muddy in that low of a tuning. So I put this H in the neck. It's perfect. It's so smooth and clear. It makes chords and leads sound relaxing to listen to clean, and clear leads distorted.

Nothing screams 'Metal' more than an EMG active Humbucker....unless it's an H single coil that is! What can I say, just crisp, twangy beautiful clean tones oozing out of my semi-hollowbody! I love my strat loaded with S single coils, AKA the Vince Gill set. Well, these will get you in that zone and installed in my Squier Starcaster its just twangy, percussive and crisp. Highly recommend these for Strat players that aren't all that fond of Humbuckers! AAAAA+++++++++

The EMG H pickup is a stack humbucker like the S single coil inside a humbucker housing.
Basically that’s like two small bobbins stacked on a Ceramic bar magnet standing up instead laid flat like a side-by-side bobbin humbucker.
So the magnet is the pole piece in effect. The irony it’s like a humbucker version of a Danelectro Lipstick Tube that’s also a standing magnet wrapped with single coil wire winding to be the pole piece then put inside WWII surplus lipstick tubes.
The H has the Ceramic tight bottom and highs with sharper attack than an Alnico V HA.
It has the warm tone of an old Charlie Christian pickup or a Burns Trisonic in the neck.
I love it with the EMG 81 in bridge so the volume output matches evenly softest at H neck then louder in middle to loudest at 81 bridge.
It doesn’t have that middle pickup out-of-phase like two normal side-by-side humbuckers and the tight sharper attack matches the 81 perfect as a pair.
It’s in my modded Gibson Flying V and matches beautifully.
Thanks and hats off to Ms Alison Turner for her advice on this pair of pickups together.
It’s a blast to play them and their evocative qualities together!
