The 81TW humbucker doubles down on tone, taking the EMG 81 and adding a separate single coil pickup in the same housing. This is not your traditional coil-tap humbucker. EMG has designed the dual-mode to allow for maximum flexibility, featuring two pickups in one humbucker. The original 81 provides all the crunch and attack it's famous for and the additional single-coil now gives players two classic tonal options to choose from. Either mode is accessed through a push/pull pot for ease and versatility. The internal preamp gives the 81TW two distinct sounds while delivering EMG's well known noise cancelling technology in both modes. Along with our solderless installation, this is a great choice for guitar players looking to get more out of one pickup. NOTE: Standard EMG humbuckers are 0.9” thick. The 81TW thickness is 1.1”. Difference of 0.22”. ONLY AVAILABLE IN BLACK!

On a Schecter Hellraiser C-1

eXe_3J /Reviewed 2/27/2014

This pickups works in a hellraiser relatively well. They have a lot of cut and are extremely good for drop tunings. Personally, it's missing a lot of response for me. For whatever amp you're using, (tube or solid state) you need to crank it to get the full power of these pickups. Which is bad if you are doing a silent practice. This is a stage guitar (it's lightweight and built for aggressive movement) so they wouldn't put pickups in it that are meant to go soft. The coil-tap is BEYOND beautiful. It's a signature smooth jazz clean that can't compare to any other guitar that I've picked up. I see these pickups as built for a rythym guitarist because when it comes to chords, those are what stick out most. Soloing can be done, but you may not cut past the bassist unless you're pushing a lot of wattage. So overall, get this if you want to play metal chords and smooth rythym, if you want to solo, get yourself something else. I recommend the EMG 81 original, or a SD SH-10 Full shred if you want the perfect combo of aggressive riffs and cutting solos.
