JACO LIVES !!!

BIGSTIX /Reviewed 3/20/2018

Recently swapped out all electronics on 2 Warwick Corvettes - a ’94 w/active pickups/passive EQ/18v & an ’04 fretless w/passive/passive. The project began because of a bad output jack on the ’94. I figured, while I’m @ it, why not replace the pots & upgrade to ‘solderless’ ??? Then I saw the ‘RED’s & thought, ‘RED’ would be ‘KOOL’. The fretless had the original volume/balance/tone set-up & I wanted to convert it to volume/volume/tone, so swapping out everything & going ‘solderless’ made sense there, too.
First things first: ‘SOLDERLESS’ is the only way to go - Warwicks use a ‘long panel’ output jack, so had to solder 3 tabs on the ‘active’ & 2 on the ‘passive’, but other than that, what a super-EZ, super-clean, goof-proof install !!!
TONE: the ’94 already had ‘EMG-J’s, so the TONE from the new ‘RED’s was the return of an old friend - clear, articulate & punchy w/lotsa ‘fundamental’ & w/18v, there’s headroom to spare. The fretless received a new set o ‘EMG-JHZ’s, which added more dynamics & punch to an already smooth axe. Both new set-ups have exceeded my expectations.
Many THANKS to the folks @ EMG !!!

Best replacement ever

Soheil /Reviewed 7/3/2015

I ordered this set via my aunt and it's been my dream to put one on my Aria Pro II bass. The tone is quite rich and it really made a bridge between a modern and a vintage sound. Love EMG. Hope to get more from them pretty soon.

Great J Bass passive pickups!

Jon /Reviewed 3/2/2015

I made a big change several years ago when I switched from my active Music Man Stingray and built a Fender fretless Jazz Bass. Back when I was coming up all my friends who played P Basses always switched out stock pickups for EMGs so when I decided to get back to a passive sound I replaced the stock Fender single coils I had with a set of EMG JHZs. I was wowed. They are stacked so you can get the full J bass thing of turning one pickup louder than the other for more growl without the typical 60 cycle hum associated with regular J bass single coils. I have to say these sound completely like a J bass pickup is supposed to and seems far superior to the original technology and if you are into the way a passive bass responds these are incredible. Just got a second set of them for another fretless J bass I just bought. I run these pickups through an Ampeg 3 Pro with a graphic EQ to enhance the fretless mids and two compressors daisy chained for an extra gain stage through a 2x10 and 1x15 Ampeg Classic cabs and the sound is pretty incredible. As good as my gear is pickups are real important and I love these. Cheers..
