The BQC Control is an active EQ circuit for bass guitars. They allow you separate control over bass, midrange, and treble all via 2 concentric/stacked pots. Rotate the control clockwise to boost, counterclockwise to cut. There is a center detent for flat response. The mid-range control has a variable frequency knob that allows you to sweep through the mid-frequency range from 100Hz to 1KHz. This selects the frequency to boost or cut. The BQC works with active or passive pickups.

Expressive tone at an inexpensive price

I bought an EMG BQC Control quite recently to replace the EMG BTS Control which came stock on my Fernandes Tony Campos Tremor Deluxe. First impression of the product was how well packaged it was. The controls were neatly packed and were inside the EMG labelled box. On the underside, were the battery clip, cables, etc. The package was very premium looking and looked as if a lot of care had been put into organizing everything in the box. Quality of the components are top-notch. I've a knack for finding the smallest flaws and my eyes couldn't find anything wrong with them. Admirable build quality. After swapping the previous controls out and some soldering (you won't need to solder anything if you had a EMG system from before. I had to as there were some really long pickup and battery cables which were not needed) the EMG BQC dropped right in. The board connected to the mid control is a bit longer than the rest of the EMG systems. Basses with a narrow cavity may not be able to house it properly. The treble/bass stack of center points on both pots. The mid control has a center point but the sweep does not. Tonal quality wise it is very clean. Does not color the tone of the bass in a bad way. These controls really shine with EMG active pickups. Though the bass control on the BTS boosted upto 12 db, the BQC bass control boosts upward till 10 db. That is not a letdown as the absence of the 2 db of boost will not kill anyone. The internal dip switches really help to tailor your own preferred treble response, something which I haven't seen in a lot of preamps in this price range. Only thing that would've been 'better' would be EMG labelled metal knobs. The plastic knobs don't do justice to the amazing quality of the preamp inside. Same design, different colors and the same EMG logo but on a metal knob and I would be completely satisfied. Overall, an excellent set of controls to be used with EMG active and passive pickups. It is really hard to give this much quality and ease of installation at a price this low but the guys at EMG have done it! Hats off again to the amazing people at EMG!
